New European registry data presented at the World Glaucoma Congress 2025 highlight enhanced safety outcomes with the use of intraluminal sutures during PreserFlo MicroShunt implantation. Among over 500 patients treated across five countries, those who received intraluminal sutures had a 65% lower incidence of postoperative hypotony compared to those without sutures. Moreover, early IOP stabilization (≤15 mmHg at day 7) occurred more frequently in the suture group. The technique involves temporarily restricting flow through the shunt, thereby preventing overfiltration in the immediate postoperative period. These findings are pivotal as they refine PreserFlo surgical technique and address one of the main complications associated with subconjunctival filtration procedures.

Implication: Adoption of intraluminal suturing may standardize PreserFlo implantation and reduce early postoperative risks, potentially accelerating broader uptake among glaucoma surgeons.
